New netLD v16 Features Explained

Cross-Network Management: all our features, tools, jobs are avail across all networksProvides the ability to perform searches, run jobs, and manage devices across multiple Managed Networks.

Used to have to search across all networks to find a device or perform a task on it.  If you had 300 networks, you needed to back up or search one network at a time.  (with or without SBs)

Now just choose “All” in the drop down menu.   From the customer’s perspective it’s one big network so they don’t have to see it split up into our SB splits.  Can do everything NLD can do across all networks now. Jr. engineers still locked out of networks they are not supposed to see.

Except policies we haven’t gotten to it yet, but they can still do it by selecting all the networks with the tool.  We will add the ability to also do it with policy creation.

Device File Attachment

Users now have the ability to attach files to devices in the inventory.

An MSP with 300 networks to manage. They wanted to be able to attach a Word doc to each device that contains more info like firewall rules, or more detailed info you may want to capture for each device. i.e. network topology, or purpose of access rules.

Configuration Change View

A top-level view [tab] for seeing a history of configuration changes across all devices in real-time.

Can see all changes made to all devices or selected networks, but all changes.

Searchable:  Can also see all changes for a period of time by searching for changes and choosing a period of time from the drop down.

Smart Bridge Reverse Connection

Problem: was asking 100 or 1000 MSP customers to open a hole in their network so the MSP can poke SB through it.  Can be an issue for the cust. security groups and auditors and increase sales times and opportunities.

Solution: Smart Bridges can now be configured to initiate their HTTPS connection to the core server rather than requiring the core server to initiate the connection. Simple HTTPS traffic (looks like browser traffic to the customers of MSP security.  With enterprises security for managing other internal networks isn’t an issue.  For MSPs this became a problem.  Most companies already allow web traffic in via HTTPS so not an issue for them.

Manage (backup) over Jumphost

Users can now configure a Jumphost to use when performing device operations. See Jumphost Documentation.

Settings / Networks / enter IP Address of box, user and password login credentials for that device.

Jumphost = a (special-purpose) computer on a network typically used to manage devices in a separate security zone. The most common example is managing a host in a DMZ from trusted networks or computers

One of our customers log in from a Linux box on the network, then log into the device.  So everyone goes through the jumpbox to the net.  With 1000 locations large customers couldn’t run SmartBridges and want to go through their own jumpserver.  Issue: some devices (like DLINK) that only uses SNMP for operations like backup they won’t work.  If device supports SSH for example like Cisco devices it will still work.

Selectable Columns for Inventory Export

Users can now select which columns should be included in the device inventory export.

Automatic SNMP version selection

Backup and discovery operations can now automatically attempt SNMP v2c when v1 fails.

Improved Serial Number Search

Serial number searches from the Advanced Device Search view now search across all device hardware, including cards, daughter cards, transceivers, power supplies, and fan trays. Before we couldn’t do this.  If you wanted a card SN you couldn’t see it in search.

Web Proxy Support

Net Line Dancer servers without direct internet connectivity can now check for and download online updates, update licenses, and report usage information through an HTTP proxy.

i.e. E*TRADE was not able to before because they do not have access out to the internet from their core server.  They have a proxy (like a web browser) to access the internet.  Now they can get updates through their proxy.

Regular Expressions in Compliance Rules

Regular expressions can now be used within compliance rule set variable restrictions.

Hostnames in Job Output

Job results now show a hostname column for easier identification of devices.

Report Spreadsheets

Compliance, Backup, and Managed Network Usage reports can now all be output as spreadsheets (XLS and CSV).

IP in PnP Request History

The device IP address is now shown in the PnP history view.

Juniper JunOS "set" Configuration

Add the "display set" configuration for Juniper JunOS devices. This allows easier compliance rule creation as well as adds Change Advisor support for Juniper JunOS.
